Assessment
Assessment The first step toward recovery is a thorough assessment. An assessment appointment is generally 1 ½ to 2 hours in length.

Each patient is assessed in order to be placed in an appropriate program that will best fit individual needs. A wide range of questions are asked in order for the professional counselor to gather sufficient information to make recommendations for treatment. COMPASS uses the SoQic assessment designed by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and the Ohio Department of Mental Health.

It is important to arrive at the assessment on time, and to be willing to openly and honestly answer questions asked by the counselor. Based upon the outcome of the assessment, the counselor will recommend a specific program and create an individualized plan for treatment. If it is found that a patient’s needs are better met in another setting (e.g. a mental health facility or hospital), the appropriate referral is made.
